Devotions: Ps 55, 138, 139:1-17; WisSol 7:1-14; Col 3:12-17; Lk 7:18-35
Lord, hear and answer my prayer; deliver me from the oppression of the wicked. Destroy their plans and defend me, Your servant, my God! I cast my burden on YHWH and He will defend me; Lord, I will trust in You. God will fulfill His purpose for me; Lord, Your steadfast love endures forever. Don’t forsake the work of Your hands! You have searched me, Lord; You know me completely! I am completely surrounded and filled by You; there is nowhere I can turn, no time I can enter, where You are not. You have made me and kept me hereto. How amazing You are, Lord!
I am like all mortals: conceived by my father and mother, born to breathe common air. We come in one way, and we leave in one way—all us mortals! While in this life, we can choose to seek wisdom; I have sought wisdom with all my energy, and God has bestowed her upon me. She is the mother of all good things; I share her wealth freely with any who will listen and learn. All are in God’s hands, and all truth comes from Him.
As God’s chosen and loved ones, put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forbearance and forgiveness—as God has borne with and forgiven you. Over all, put on love; let Christ’s peace rule in your hearts, as you have been called to unity in His body. Be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another with God-given wisdom; sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs as you thank God from your hearts! Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
John the Baptist sent two representatives to ask Jesus: ‘Are you He Whom we await, or shall we look for another?’ Jesus answered: ‘Go and tell John what you witness: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor receive proclamation of the good news. Blessed is he who takes no offense at Me!’
