Devotions: Ps 33, 107:33-43; 108:1-6; Isa 65:17-25; Rev 22:14-21; Mt 18:21-35
It is fitting for the righteous to praise God! Let us sing Him new songs and shout His glory! YHWH’s word is right; His deeds are faithful; He loves righteousness and justice; the universe overflows with the steadfast love of YHWH! He created all that is, by speaking His will; let all sentient beings stand in awe of Him. YHWH brings the councils of the nations to nothing, while His counsel stands forever. God knows all, sees all; and salvation is from God alone. God watches over and protects those who fear Him, our Help and Shield. Lord, let Your steadfast love rest upon us as we hope and trust in You. God controls rainfall, the flow of waters—He makes springs and He makes droughts; He can turn wasteland to rich pasture, and pools of water to deserts. God blesses those He chooses to bless; He protects the oppressed and comforts the sorrowing; He brings princes and the arrogant rich to their knees; He silences insolence and comforts the weary. Let us ponder YHWH’s steadfast love. God, my heart is steadfast; I will make melody to You; for Your steadfast love is great above the heavens, and Your righteousness overtops the clouds! Let Your glory shine over all the earth, that Your loved ones may be delivered and helped, our God! God treads down our foes.
God will make a new heaven and new earth, and former things will pass from memory. Let us be glad in His creation; let us rejoice over the new Jerusalem, and be glad in the redeemed people of YHWH. No more will weeping be heard, or cries of distress. People will live out the full range of their lives; they will build and abide; they will plant and harvest. Our labors will be fruitful; our children will prosper. There will be no more hurt or destruction in God’s re-creation. Thus says the Lord.
Blessed are those welcomed to God’s new kingdom; outside remain those who oppose God: ‘dogs, sorcerers, fornicators, murderers, idolaters and all who love and practice falsehood.’ Jesus has sent His angel us with testimony for His church: ‘I Am the Root and Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.’ The Spirit and the church say, ‘Come!’ And let all who hear repeat: ‘Come!’ Let those who are thirsty come and partake of the waters of eternal life, without a price. Let no one add to or remove from the words of God’s revelation, lest he or she face all the plagues mentioned there, and they lose their share in the tree of life and God’s new Jerusalem. Jesus say, ‘Surely, I Am coming soon.’ Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.
Peter asked Jesus how often one is obligated to forgive one’s brother. Jesus said, ‘Not seven times, but seventy times seven. Think of the kingdom of God like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. One was brought to him who owed an astounding fortune—millions of times one’s annual wages. Out of pity for the man and his family, the lord forgave this unpayable debt. But that same servant then left and cornered a man who owed him about three months’ wages. The man promised to pay and asked patience, but the first servant refused and had the man thrown into debtors’ prison. Fellow servants, noting this injustice, brought the matter to their master’s attention. His lord summoned the first servant and addressed him: “Wicked servant! I forgave your immense debt at your begging—should you not have had mercy on your fellow servant as I had mercy on you?” In anger, the ruler delivered the ungrateful servant to the jailers till he should pay all his debt—an impossible task.’ Jesus concluded: ‘In this same way My heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.’ [That’s the program, brothers and sisters.]
