Devotions: Ps 37; Hab 3:1-18; Phil 3:12-21; Jn 17:1-8
David wrote: Don’t worry or fret about the apparent good fortune of the wicked; they’re on a slippery slope. Trust in YHWH and do what is good; delight in God and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit yourself to God; trust in Him, and He will act. He will vindicate you and affirm your righteousness. Refrain from anger and worry. God watches over the blameless and holds the wicked accountable. God establishes those in whom He delights; He feeds, clothes, and shelters us. So wait upon God and His timing, and watch as the wicked melt away. There is a future for a man of peace and faith, because he takes refuge in the one true God.
Habakkuk prayed: O Lord, I have heard about You, and I am in awe of Your works. Renew Your people, and show Your glory. God, Your brightness dazzles me; Your power makes me tremble. You are Master of all creation; the very mountains bow before You. The sun and moon are in Your care; how mighty is our God! I watch quietly as God manages history. I will rejoice in God my Savior as long as I live; God, YHWH, is my Strength; He enables me to scale the heights!
Paul wrote: I am not yet perfect, but I press on daily, because the Messiah Jesus has made me His own. I forget the past and strain toward what lies ahead, pressing on to the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in the Messiah Jesus. Let all who are mature believe so, and if you think otherwise, God will reveal the truth to you in His time. Let us hold true to whatever we have attained in terms of faith and godly knowledge. My brothers and sisters, imitate me, and mark the godly among you. Many live as enemies of the cross of the Messiah. Their end will be destruction; their god is the belly; their glory is actually shame; and their minds are fixed on earthly things. By contrast, our commonwealth is in heaven, and we are waiting for our Savior to return from there, the Lord Jesus the Messiah. When He comes, He will change our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body, by means of the power which enables Him to subject all things to Himself.
Jesus prayed: ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son that Your Son may glorify You! You have given Me power over all flesh, to give eternal life to those You have given Me. And this is eternal life: that they may know You the only true God and Jesus the Messiah, Whom You have sent. I glorified You on earth, and fulfilled the work You gave Me to do. Now, Father, glorify Me in Your own presence with the glory I had with You before the world was made. I have manifested Your name to the mortals You gave to me out of the world. They were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they know that everything You have given Me is truly from You; for I have given them the words You gave Me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from You. They have believed that You did send Me.’
