The sons of Korah address the king: ‘You are fairest of the sons of men; ride forth in your majesty, great Victor. Your throne is eternal; God has anointed you with the oil of gladness; you cheer the hearts of your people. Let the fair princess wait upon her Lord, and let all the people praise our king.’ YHWH is King over all creation; He gathers all the earth to Himself. Great is our God and greatly to be praised, in His holy city. We have meditated, Lord, on Your steadfast love; this is our God, our Guide, forever!

Listen Jacob: I AM He Who called you; I created all that is, and My will is to be performed. I teach you to profit and direct your paths; let me keep Your commands and experience Your peace. There is no peace for the wicked, but there is a future for the people of God.

Paul began his ministry under God’s direction; he spent fifteen days with Peter and met James, but was hardly known to the church in Jerusalem. After fourteen years, he laid out his gospel to the leaders in Jerusalem—who affirmed Paul’s ministry to the Gentiles, and urged him to remember the poor, as God had already moved him to do.

When Jesus taught in His hometown synagogue, the people took offense. Jesus noted that prophets are least honored in their own home towns and among their own relatives. Their unfaith limited His ministry among them to healing a few sick people; Jesus marveled at their unbelief. He called and sent forth the Twelve in pairs, with authority over unclean spirits. They were to take nothing, counting on God and the hospitality of people to provide for them. Their ministry was blessed; they preached repentance, cast out many demons, and anointed and healed many who were sick.
