Devotions: Proverbs 12
Whoever loves knowledge loves discipline, but those who hate reproof are stupid. God favors the good and condemns the evil. Wickedness is insecure and will be overthrown, but the righteous cannot be moved, and they will stand. A good wife is her husband’s crown; a shameful wife rots her husband’s bones. Righteous thoughts are just; wicked thoughts are treacherous. Wicked speech is bloodthirsty, but upright talk brings deliverance. Good sense is commended, but perversity is despised. Better to work and eat than to pretend greatness and lack bread. The righteous care for animals; even the mercy of the wicked is cruel. Work at what produces food, not at worthless pursuits. The wicked build upward, and their towers tumble; the righteous tend to their roots and foundations, and abide. Lies catch up and snare liars; the righteous escape from trouble. We reap what we earn. Fools follow their own foolish counsel; the wise listen to advice. Fools are immediately irritable, but a prudent man ignores an insult. Honest witnesses speak truth; false witnesses utter deceit. Rash words slash like swords, but a wise tongue heals. Truthfulness survives forever, but lying dies suddenly. Evil hearts are full of trouble; but those who plan good have joy. The righteous have no lasting troubles, but the wicked are filled with trouble. God hates liars; faithfulness is His delight. The wise conceal their knowledge; fools prate their folly. Diligent hands will rule; sloths become slaves. Anxiety weighs down one’s heart, but a good word makes us glad. A righteous man turns from evil, but the wicked are led deeper into error. A lazy man catches no prey, but the diligent get precious wealth. Righteousness leads to eternal life, but error, to death.
