Devotions: Proverbs 9

Wisdom and Wantonness have built their houses, and both invite the foolish and simple to visit them. Wisdom hews seven pillars, slaughters a beast, mixes wine, sets her table, and sends out her servants to call the simple in, to live and walk in the way of insight. Those who try to correct scoffers and the wicked get abused and injured—but those who reprove the wise are thanked, like those who teach the righteous. Fearing God is the beginning of wisdom; knowledge of the Holy One is insight. Wisdom lengthens and enriches life. The wanton woman is noisy and shameless; she claims that stolen water and food is tastier—but those who enter her portals are going to their deaths!
