Devotions: Proverbs 8
Wisdom cries out, seeking those who will follow her—let the simple and foolish learn prudence. Her proclamations are noble, and she shuns wickedness. Her precepts are clear to the wise, but opaque to fools. Better to seek wisdom than precious metals or gems; nothing is as valuable as wisdom; nothing so enriches a man as humility and the fear of God. These protect one against pride and arrogance; perverted speech and evil habits enrage God. Wisdom offers sound counsel; riches and honor follow from commitment to wisdom’s way. Seek Wisdom diligently, and find riches and honor as well. Follow her into paths of righteousness and justice. She is God’s first work, His helpmate in creation of all that is. She is God’s delight; happy are they who keep her ways. Take instruction and be wise. Find wisdom, and you have found life; miss wisdom, and you embrace death.
