Devotions: Proverbs 6.
Don’t cosign for neighbors or strangers; if you get yourself into this kind of situation, take no rest and spare no effort to get out—struggle now or suffer later. And work hard. Consider how ants work—gathering and preparing in summer so as to survive winter. Give in to laziness now, and you’ll be poor and needy. Sudden calamity and final brokenness befall the worthless and shifty, who deceive, plot, and exude impatience; and discord follows from such behaviors. Six or seven things God hates are haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart hatching evil plans, feet that haste to do evil, a false witness exhaling lies, and a man who generates discord among brothers. My son, keep your Father’s commands and follow your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart; tie them around your neck. And when you walk, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will counsel with you. God’s commands and teaching are a light; His discipline and reproof are the way of life. They will protect you from the evil woman, the glib adventuress, who stalks a man’s very life. Everyone is burned by adultery. People hate thieves who steal to satisfy their appetites; how much more the man or woman who commits adultery. They will be wounded and dishonored, and they face unending vengefulness!
